Winter is synonymous with cosy and intimate. Fireplaces, fairy lights and candles create the perfect ambiance for a dream-like winter wedding!
While it may seem daunting, there are advantages to having a wedding during the winter months. It is generally more affordable, as many venues and vendors offer lower rates during this period. And if you’re sticking to the intimate theme, keeping your guestlist small means an even bigger saving.
On your wedding day, the backdrop of snow on the mountains or droplets of rain make for stunning photographs.

And if you’re still wondering how to make the most of your winter wedding, here are some tips to make your day exceptional:
Find the perfect venue.
Ideally indoors, a space that keeps warmth inside like a barn or shed is a great option, or a reception room that has a fireplace or two! If you live in a city that doesn’t get much rain in winter, having a lunchtime picnic after your ceremony can be very cosy as well.
Choose decor that adds to the serenity.
Lean into dried flowers, a lot of greenery and rustic-styled furniture. Make sure to have heaters and loads of candles around the venue to make it snug.

Saying yes to the dress.
As the bride and groom, deciding on your outfits is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your wedding. Brides could opt for long-sleeved dresses, with a lacy look to embody the intimate feel, or a warm covering for the shoulders. For the grooms, replacing a regular suit jacket with a velvet or fleece one is a stylish way to keep warm and incorporate your wedding colours.

Colour schemes.
For both outfits and decor, forest greens, burgundy, gold and rusty colours are a few winter colour staples.
Make sure your guests are comfortable.
Encourage your guests to dress warmly, but also provide warm accessories on the day. Include baskets with blankets and shawls and maybe a few pairs of gloves. Consider offering a warm beverage as a welcome drink: espressos, hot chocolate or an Irish coffee for those who need the extra heat!
Start the proceedings early.
A morning ceremony with lunch directly afterwards is a wonderful way to make the most of the daylight hours.

The menu.
Wholesome and hearty meals paired with some red wine will keep the guests warm and satisfied! Some ideas include oxtail, lamb shank or steak.
Keep the hot drinks flowing!
A tea and coffee station is mandatory, especially in the late afternoon hours heading into the evening.
For one of the most important days of your life, the best way to ensure everything runs smoothly and ease the planning pressure is to hire an event planner. At DG Events you’ll find the perfect package [1] for all your needs, so you can bask in the serenity of your special day.
