Hosting an event at a private residence is conceptually beautiful. It’s personal, intimate and exclusive, but it requires just as much effort as an event held at a venue.

Here are a few guidelines to get you started:

Guest List

Before anything else, you’ve got to work out a guest list. The number of guests you have will dictate what you need for your at-home function. When you create invitations, make sure to include RSVP information so you can adjust accordingly.

Theme

Sometimes the occasion decides the theme for you. For example: a backyard wedding, a graduation party or a specific holiday gathering.

If it’s a unique theme, like a dress-up party or one-colour scheme, you’ll probably want to choose furniture and decor that fit the style.

Setting

For a formal event, such as a wedding or birthday dinner, you will need tables and chairs with dinner placements, whereas an informal gathering requires cocktail tables and stools.

Food

Consider how you’d like to serve your guests. You might hire a caterer who sets up the food buffet-style for guests to serve themselves, or perhaps you prefer formal lunch or dinner service, which would require wait staff to serve the meal.  For informal settings, self-service canapé stations are an easy, efficient way to provide food.

Drinks

Drink stations are one of the easiest ways to keep your guests happy. Whether it’s a fully-stocked bar, a coffee cart or a custom cocktail bar, guests love a good drink.

You can create unique drinks for your occasion, such as a cocktail reflective of your personality or bride-and-groom custom drinks.

This is a great way to add a personal touch, and in addition, consider party favours or inclusive games and activities for everyone.

Although fun, hosting an event at home can still be stressful. Let DG Events handle the details while you bond with your guests!
